Syrup & Roses

Jimmy Biggs - Syrup & Roses

In furs, socks, and bangles, he shows us a lump in an
Urn – a new-fangled sewn and crumpled-up
Kernel of the man who had stolen something so sumptuous, then
Turned up in sandals and a woven jumper.

Zed sings a psalm to the ladies of Europe,
Which brings some alarm ‘cos they’re jaded and stupid –
They swing from the branches as apes to endure;
But bring such calm, and their shapes are like syrup.

The idyll slowly closes and fills up their noses
The mill from those poses has killed it so. Is
That brilliant? No? Well, it’s still a real blow; it’s
All the kneeling, the knowing and that feeling like roses.
