Memsahib, Certainly

lyrics

Jimmy Biggs - Memsahib, Certainly

To be wet from the waves is brilliant, I bet
Archangels and strangers started circling my crib
And ignoring the warnings, tore California into my sores
I startled and gasped as I felt my clutch clasp.

Won’t let no memsahib
Not tell me what to do.
Even if it kills me to see
Jesus swimming with his pupils and me
And not you

Met by a depraved Cyrillic alphabet
I blamed all who’d arranged this heckling to rid
Me of my moorings – a fawn born unto corn –
And departed at dusk with much of my past.

Won’t let no memsahib
Not tell me what to do.
Even if it kills me to see
Jesus swimming with his pupils and me
And not you

All set to be saved, and killing that crest,
Tangled, deranged, a mess, retching, just a kid –
I saw my Lord, all hoary and bored
Say “Martyr, you husk – your luck will not last.”

Won’t let no memsahib
Not tell me what to do.
Even if it kills me to see
Jesus swimming with his pupils and me
And not you

I felt all these favours filling to threats –
When saying and conveying aren’t echoing what you did
And the cords of your laws are shorn and scored
The whole task was a mask, tucked in like a farce.
