James Jefferys - Falls From the Sky

I heaved, slung over the stern of the boat,
Spied land and gripped the ship
With the salt in my eyes

A whole hectare of orchard for granted
But there’s not a pear and nothing’s been planted
The farmer keels for the final time into the furrow
A plough-dug grave for Autumn’s sorrow
A man who never did exist
Surely can’t be missed

The mattress in the bath
Given a new home
The farmer sells up
And goes it alone

I heaved, slung over the stern of the boat
Spied land between the pillars of salt in my eyes
Gripped the ship twixt a ripped stomach’s tricks
Distracted by sirens
And the padding of rhinos
Started admiring
The strength of the giants
The ground beneath us, rough and sandy
Quaked from where our vessel landed

How lucky am I?
It falls from the sky

How lucky am I?
It falls from the sky
